Issue #94: Will the Space Economy Help Fix Earth?

Howdy 👋🏾. It’s been a year. PerryLabs technically started the summer of 2024, but 2025 is when the business really got its sea legs. We brought on our first hire, released The AI Evolution, ran our first workshops, spoke at more than 50 events around the world, launched a new podcast with our friends at Baltimore Public Media/WYPR, and signed a lease on a new office space in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore City.

As we head into the holidays and approach a new year, I want to say thank you for reading. PerryLabs and Thoughts on Tech & Things are going to take a much-needed break, so we’re wrapping up the year with our final podcast episode.

We’ll be back in 2026, starting things off with a special CES edition of the podcast and newsletter. You can also catch me live on WYPR’s Midday on Monday, the 5th.

See you next year!

-Jason

🎙️ Will the Space Economy Help Fix Earth?

I sat down with Andrew Parlock, Founder and CEO of Space Phoenix Systems, to talk about how the space economy is moving from science fiction into everyday reality. We explored how falling launch costs, reusable systems, and returnable payloads are turning low Earth orbit into an operating environment — not just a destination.

We also dug into what this new space economy means for business, sustainability, and the planet itself, from pharmaceuticals manufactured in microgravity to satellite networks connecting oceans and deserts around the world. Andrew shared why Maryland is uniquely positioned in this race and how Space Phoenix is redefining access to orbit by focusing on logistics, not rockets.
